The scissor lift is a long-established design used in industry and assembly work to raise parts, people and essential equipment to the height of the job. Put simply, it is a raised platform on wheels that works like an elevator. It is just as useful outside industrial settings, where it lifts people and materials off the floor quickly and adds flexibility to the work.
When the crossed arms of the scissor mechanism extend, the platform rises. Depending on the model, it reaches a working position between 21 and 62 feet above the ground.
Newer scissor lifts add useful features. On some models the platform can rotate, so the operator can choose the best working position once raised, and on others the platform can move out in a straight line.
