A scissor lift is a work platform designed to carry loads or people. It rises using crossed supports that fold and unfold beneath the platform, in a vertical scissor action. Depending on the model, the lift is powered hydraulically, pneumatically or mechanically, and larger models can reach a height of 18.8 meters (62 feet). Scissor lifts are used in industrial, wholesale and commercial settings.
- Operators can reach areas that would otherwise be out of reach.
- The lift is simple to operate and move, which reduces operator fatigue and helps productivity.
- Workers can position themselves at a better working angle, avoiding repeated bending and stretching that leads to repetitive strain injury (RSI).
- The load is lifted evenly, because the scissor action works vertically beneath a level platform.
Scissor lifts also come in many configurations, so there is a model for almost every workplace:
- Scissor lifts vary in base size, platform size, vertical travel and maximum height, so you can choose one that fits your needs.
- Capacities range from standard to heavy loads.
- Lifts can be stationary or mobile. Mobile units can be moved around the site and used in different areas.
- A turntable allows the whole lift table to rotate, which saves time and reduces injuries from twisting.
- Tilting models let users slide items off the platform instead of lifting them.
- Fully lowered, a scissor lift takes up very little space in a warehouse, office or factory.
